El dorado

El Dorado the lost city of gold

El-dorado is a Spanish word meaning gold. Later on, this El-dorado became known as the City of Gold. The people of the Muisca civilization called the king or chieftain of their clan as El-dorado.
According to the famous archaeologist Juan Rodriguez's book El-carnero, whenever a new king or chieftain was elected in the Muisca clan a divine ritual was performed.
The newly elected king is brought to Lake Guatavita. (Currently, Guatavita is located in Bogota ,Colombia.) There that king or chieftain would have been completely naked and every hair of his body was taken out and ashes of gold particles were applied on it.

El Dorado Rituals

Due to being wrapped in gold the king looks like a gold idol, 4 religious leaders of the Muisca civilization would go to the middle of the lake with the king and precious ornaments in a boat decorated with gold and they would bathe the new king in the lake and put other precious ornaments in the lake. The reason for this was that he used to do this as an offering to the Sun God.

 Discovery of El Dorado

In 1537 A.D Gonzalo Quesada discovered guatavita and introduced the secret of El-dorado to the world.
In 1537, Gonzalo Quesada began his search with a crew of 900 people, but diseases like Malari , Latin America's jungle, swamps and other problems came as death for 700 companions, including his cargo-carrying porters and warriors.
When Gonzalo's crew had only about 200 people left so he decided to return back . But then he saw a fertile land and This was the village of the Chipka clan. There he saw a grand temple of the Sun God. The people of the clan could not withstand modern(that time ) weapons. The Chipka clan was defeated and after the defeat the chieftain of the Chipka clan told Gonzalo about the Guatavita lake. This was exactly the place Gonzalo was looking for!
Lake

When Gonzalo reached the lake, he saw that no gold was found on the lake built on the hole of a Quite volcano.
Gonzalo searched there continuously for 3 years and at that time Gonzalo found 20 kg of gold in the form of pebbles and dust, which was very little gold for the expedition. Gonzalo's campaign was completed and he returned to Spain again.
